Day 2: Afro-strations

Sooo, we have a photo shoot next Sunday for the Pageant. I'm quite looking forward to it and I thought it'd be cool to wear my hair in a different style from the fro I rock everyday. Hence tonight I've been googling natural hair styles for some inspiration. My mom just came down to my room and I was telling her about my search... she told me I should straighten my hair.

I gave her the "are you serious, now why the hell would I wanna do that" look then grudgingly listened as she explained to me that "it would look better with a fancy pageant dress" . . .

Did she just say what I think she said?

Straight hair would look better with a pageant grown than my afro!?

Wow, this just further feeds my belief that society has screwed up our Black women's outlook on beauty. Why can't my natural hair be just as beautiful, fancy, professional, and glamorous as straight hair? Because if you really sit back and think about it; there is NO reason. None what so ever. So I have decided to stand by my natural hair during this pageant experience, I will not straighten it, I will not put a weave in... and on Sunday, June 12, 2011 my natural hair will be just as beautiful and glamorous as every one else :)
